#! /bin/sh
UNAME_REL=`(/bin/uname -X|grep Release|sed -e 's/.*= //')`
echo got $UNAME_REL
exit 0

/bin/uname: invalid option -- X
Try `/bin/uname --help' for more information.

I think this is the right line of investigation but I don't know enough
about how config works. It seems to me that something upsets that
parser and the parentheses no longer match. If I copy hack config chasing
out the reported unexpected `)' I reach further instances of unexpected `)'
and eventually having hacked out all it reports unexpected EOF.

I feel that we should start at the beginning, why does config not extract
x86_64 for itself from uname -m???

Thanks for your help
