I wonder if this is a Libtool bug.

Brad / Nysal / IBM -- are you able to replicate this issue with the 1.4.3 tarballs? If so, are you able to replace it with a 1.5 tarball? (we changed versions of Libtool between 1.3.x/1.4.x and 1.5)
