Brock, Matt; thank you both. That has solved my problem.
 
Matt, Thank you for pointing that out, i was starting to get a little confused. I have now replaced them with their respective alternatives: MPI::COMM_WORLD.Get_Rank() and MPI::COMM_WORLD.Get_Size().
