After Nathan's latest commit, I can confirm this branch now builds and runs. I've looked at the code, and the added code is indeed completely separated from the existing code base and shouldn't create any operational issues. I haven't confirmed it actually works, but as Nathan saids, that can be resolved as we go.

Still, let's give others a chance to verify as well.
