yes, definitely a typo - geeezzzz !! message gone, both --mca btl
tcp, self and --mca btl tcp,sm,self do just fine.

langston_at_alpha:~/OPENMPI/openmpi-1.3/examples$ orterun --mca btl
tcp,self -np 2 hello_c
Hello, world, I am 1 of 2
Hello, world, I am 0 of 2

and

langston_at_alpha:~/OPENMPI/openmpi-1.3/examples$ orterun --mca btl
tcp,sm,self -np 2 hello_c
Hello, world, I am 0 of 2
Hello, world, I am 1 of 2
