I see... so the right way to right this is really:

        #define ompi_cast_to_int(x) static_cast<int>(x)
        #else
        #define ompi_cast_to_int(x) (x)
        #endif
        
                intval = ompi_cast_to_int(stroul(foo));

Right? ;)
